Dentures Q & A

What are dentures?

Dentures are dental devices that restore your smile by replacing missing teeth. Dentures are removable, and you can remove them for cleaning and oral care. Depending on the type of dentures, they can replace many, or even all, of your teeth.

If you’ve lost several teeth due to decay, an injury, or another condition, dentures are probably the fastest and most wallet-friendly way to restore your smile.

What are the different types of dentures?

At Fort Worth Dental Care PLLC, Dr. Brogdon offers different types of dentures. Depending on your needs, he may recommend one of the following:

Complete dentures

Complete dentures replace your full set of teeth. These dentures attach to your gums with suction and stay in place with adhesive. The entire denture device covers your existing gums and blends in with your natural tissue.

Partial dentures

If you still have natural teeth in your upper or lower jaw, Dr. Brogdon may use partial dentures to replace the missing ones.

Unlike complete dentures, partial dentures don’t stick to your gums. Instead, Dr. Brogdon anchors the denture to the neighboring healthy teeth.

Implant-supported dentures

Dental implants are permanent tooth restorations that involve surgically inserting a titanium rod into your jaw bone. Dr. Brogdon refers you to an oral surgeon to install the implants, then you return to Fort Worth Dental Care for your dentures.

Dr. Brogdon may suggest mini dental implants to stabilize partial dentures on your lower jaw. Mini implants are about half the size of regular dental implants and provide a strong, durable anchor for partial dentures.

What should I expect when I get dentures?

The process of creating and fitting your dentures takes several appointments that may span a few weeks.

First, Dr. Brogdon examines your mouth and discusses your best options for tooth replacement in a consultation. Then, he measures your jaw and makes a series of dental impressions to create denture models you try on for fit and comfort.

When you find the right size, Dr. Brogdon casts a final denture, making adjustments as necessary.
